What Are the State Requirements in Wisconsin?

To become eligible for a cosmetology license in Wisconsin you’ll need to find a licenced cosmetology school. The program needs to include at least 1,550 hours of instruction. If you choose an apprenticeship, it must include 4,000 hours of theory and practical development.

What Can I Learn as a Licensed Cosmetologist?

If you attend a licensed cosmetology program you can learn a variety of different skills! Licensed cosmetologists have the knowledge to make their client’s hair, skin, and nails look stunning and polished. These skills are taught through different courses required by the state of Wisconsin. Some parts of the curriculum you can expect to learn are:

When you finish your training, the next thing to do is to sit for the state exam! You’ll need to contact the Wisconsin Cosmetology Examining Board to sit for the state exam. Once you’re finished with your hours you’ll schedule an appointment with the Department’s contracted vendor, DL Roope Administration Inc. The final test includes practical and written sections.

Per state requirements, you’ll also need to renew your license every two years with four hours of continuing education hours. This can help you stay up-to-date with current cosmetology practices and laws to better serve your clients!
